Is there anywhere to stay, eat, or buy things on the Island?

Where can we swim?
The most popular swimming beaches are the East End Beach, Roger's Point, John Dan's Cove Beach, and the beach beside the wharf.
How do I get there?
The Pictou Island ferry is a passenger-only vessel that leaves from the Caribou Wharf. For more info on the ferry and a full schedule click here.
How many people live on the Island?
There are only a few full-time families still living on the Island, which was once a thriving fishing community (for history, click here). However in the spring and the summer the population blossoms with many cottagers and visitors.
What kind of power is used on the Island?
Almost all homes and cottages are equipped with solar panels. Most also use generators if necessary.
Is there access to drinking water?
There is no public access to running water on the Island, so make sure to take lots with you if you plan a trip!
What do I do if there is an emergency?
Call 911 immediately; there are first aid responders on the Island.
How long will it take me to walk to the East End Beach?
It takes about 2 hours for an adult to walk to the East End.

How much does the ferry cost?
There is a fee of $5 each way to take the Pictou Island ferry.
