Welcome to our paradise.

Nestled in the Northumberland Strait between Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island lies a hidden jewel called Pictou Island, located 7.5 kms from the mainland.

Originally settled in the early 1800s by Irish and Scottish immigrants who left a legacy of self-sufficiency, co-operation, and a keen sense of fun that current Islanders strive to uphold. The island today is home to a community of year-round and seasonal residents, and a haven for many cottagers and visitors.

This unique community possesses a strong sense of spirit. We value the pace of life and the tranquility that our island allows. We are committed to protecting and preserving the essence of this special place for the present and future generations.

This island has many things to see and do.

There are many beautiful historic sites, beaches and community services, such as wi-fi access! We invite the curious and adventurous to explore and learn about our unique island lifestyle, amid our sandstone bluffs, red soil fields and beautiful sandy beaches.

Nature
Pictou Island is a unique and secluded place to enjoy nature. Due to its isolation, it offers a condensed version similar to the mainland, with dense forests, rocky coastlines and sandy beaches.

The island is full of creatures. Surrounding the shore are lobsters, seals, porpoises, and sometimes you can see whales. For bird watching, the island is home to a blue heron colony, several bald eagle families, owls, cormorants, and others. The island is also home to many rabbits, which are best spotted in the evening!
